Walking for Alzheimer’s 2016

Walking for Alzheimer’s 2016 (September)

Memory Walk for The Alzheimer’s Society

We did it…. We walked for The Alzheimers Society and raised over £277.00
Thank you to everyone who donated

On Saturday 24th September 2016 My Special Event participated in the Portsmouth Memory Walk.

It was a 2.5km Walk raising money and awareness for the Alzheimers Society.

There were thousands of us who took part, all ages, fitness abilities and gender.  It was such a fun thing to be part of. The only advice I would give is make sure that your arrive in plenty of time to get parked and warmed up.

The event is in a large field and it is attended by a lot of people so make sure your children are well informed what to do if you get split up and make sure younger children are kept by you and have the supplied identity wristbands with your emergency numbers on them incase the worse happens and they get lost.

Once the energizing warm-up was out of the way taken by the Zumba instructor the walk finally began.

The walk was in the sunny seaside town of Portsmouth at a local park not far from the Sealife Centre and War Memorial Museum.

I and my son (who was in the buggy) and my husband participated in the walk alongside the actress Emma Barton who is best known for playing Honey Mitchell in Eastenders. Lots of people including, Emma brought their dogs to the event so they could have a walk around too.

The walk was split into two lengths 2.5km and 5km and there were different routes mapped out for each walk.

In just over a 1hr and a bit the walk was over and done with and we all received a medal for our efforts and a well-deserved bottle of water.

After the event myself, my husband and my son along with a lot of other people who had the same idea all headed off to lunch at the local pub.

A great event, brilliantly organised and I would definitely do it again….maybe in a few years.

Walking for Alzhemiers – The Memory Walk- Would I do it Again?

The short answer to this is “YES”.  It was such a well organised and fun sponsored walk.  I am hoping that maybe next time I can get a bigger team involved and raise a lot more money for this charity.
